This afternoon at Kiwanis, Dennis Brown, Vicar at St.Michaels Episcopal Church spoke to us about the Chrysalis Academy. Chrysalis is a non profit school that takes special needs children afflicted with ADD/HD, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism and Dyslexia. Some of these children have special gifts such as brilliance with math or music, but all of them realize their condition and tend to gravitate to their own kind or want to be alone. The use of computers allows them to gain knowledge at their own pace and encourages responsibility and a sucessful schooling experience. The teacher-student ratio at Chrysalis is very low (1:6) to guaranty personal attention and "hands-on" learning. More information on the great work this school is doing can be found at: http://www.thechrysalisacademy.org/
