Tonight was opening night for the Mobile Symphony and as season ticket holders we were invited to a reception/cocktail party before the performance. Wine and hors de oeuvres, catered by Naman's, gave everyone a chance to mix with old friends. While "belly dancers" performed we spent some time with Mary Ann Gantt from Satsuma. The dancers were in keeping with the theme of "Scheherazade", one of the selections performed along with Gershwin's "American In Paris" and Shostakovich "Festive Overture" The musicians were well rested from a summer vacation and played to standing ovations. The Saenger Theatre is one of Mobiles restored treasures and should be visited often.
Pictured above are the Mobile Symphony, with Conductor Scott Speck and co-concertmaster Enen Yu following Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. I'm enjoying a chat with one of the dancers that entertained us during the preconcert reception in the second picture.
