At Kiwanis we welcomed Jill Chenoweth from St. Mary's Home on Moffett Rd. in Mobile. They were founded in 1838 after the yellow fever epidemic of 1837 had killed so many parents, their children were left destitute and homeless. Today the Home takes in a great number of children that have been sexually and physically abused and are left feeling worthless and angry. They are taught basic living skills, spiritual enrichment and given educational assistance. Most require some amount of group or individual therapy as well. Citizens may
contribute money to the facility, but it is just as important to help out by teaching, volunteering as a recreation aide or hosting a holiday celebration. The number at St. Marys is 344-7733.
