Lunch at Kiwanis and we were delighted to have Trey Oliver from Mobile Co, Metro Jail speak to our group. Metro Co. basically detains the arrested until the outcome of their trial and they are always "full to the brink". Twenty-seven thousand people are arrested each year with 18% of them being drug related charges. Last year 1,149 of them were men and 170 women. Just a decade or two ago, there was just a handful of women, but that is changing fast. The current population of Metro is 1,319 prisoners and the cost to maintain the facility is 22 million dollars.
Trey is the Warden and is located at 450 Emanuel Street in Mobile.
