I attended Kiwanis lunch today and was delighted to hear a husband and wife team speak on the Banking and Credit Union businesses. Phil Domke is Vice President of Bancorp South and his wife Deb Domke is with New Horizon Credit Union. They addressed the competition between the different organizations and the higher interest a credit union will pay to overcome the perceived prestige of a large bank. Both of their organizations were not affected by the foreclosure disaster that hit some of the larger facilities and refused to take any TARP money distributed last fall. Phil and Deb answered questions and discussed the decisions that must be made before a bank "short-sells a piece of delinquent property. There was a drawing on door prizes which were won by Carnes Craig, City Inspector and Dennis Brown, Pastor of St. Michaels Episcopal Church.
